Welcome!

Welcome to Caps 'Round the Clock, a blog covering the Washington Capitals and the NHL. In season, I update the Blog after every practice and on game day with Caps news and information, and then provide a recap and analysis after each contest. I also write a periodical Prospect Watch and weekly feature pieces on the state of the Men in Red and other things Capitals. And of course, I will post videos and tidbits from around the League and offer my two cents as the season wears on. In the offseason, I write a Report Card for each player, and will keep you updated on all the news about the Caps through the summer. I'm glad you're here, and hope you come back!

Gameday: at Pittsburgh, Jan. 1 - 2011 Winter Classic

Heinz Field
Caps fans, we have waited months for this day to arrive since this game was announced in May, and now it is finally here.  The Washington Capitals will face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in the 2011 NHL Winter Classic.  The Caps are coming off a 3-0 blanking of the Canadiens on Tuesday, while the Penguins are coming off a 2-1 shootout loss against the Islanders on Wednesday.

The Penguins are wrapping up their morning skate at the moment in Consol Energy Center, and the Caps will have their skate in a little bit.  Big news out of the Penguins camp is that star two-way forward Jordan Staal will make his long-awaited season debut for the Penguins this evening.  Staal has missed time this season with a ridiculous plethora of injuries, including a staph infection and three breaks of the same hand.  To no one's suprise, Pens coach Dan Bylsma will start Marc-Andre Fleury in nets for the Penguins.

Semyon Varlamov is expected to be the starting goaltender for the Capitals tonight.  More on the final line-up after the morning skate.

The weather, for the moment, is pretty rotten, with 51 degree temps and steady rain.  But the forecast is getting better, with this low pressure system expected to be driven out by around 7 PM this evening by clouds and cooler, drier, air.  Can't wait.

Check back later.
