Welcome!

Welcome to Caps 'Round the Clock, a blog covering the Washington Capitals and the NHL. In season, I update the Blog after every practice and on game day with Caps news and information, and then provide a recap and analysis after each contest. I also write a periodical Prospect Watch and weekly feature pieces on the state of the Men in Red and other things Capitals. And of course, I will post videos and tidbits from around the League and offer my two cents as the season wears on. In the offseason, I write a Report Card for each player, and will keep you updated on all the news about the Caps through the summer. I'm glad you're here, and hope you come back!

Updates From the Morning Skate

The Capitals have just completed their morning skate inside the Consol Energy Center in downtown Pittsburgh.  Some personnel updates for tonight's Winter Classic:

Tom Poti, unfortunately, will not be able to play tonight due to the concussion-like symptoms that have plagued him for a little over a week now.  That means John Erskine gets a jersey from coach Bruce Boudreau.  Tyler Sloan and DJ King will be scratches as well - Sloan is on IR still and King will be a healthy scratch.  Both Mathieu Perreault and Marcus Johansson have been confirmed as in the lineup and will center the second and third lines, respectively.

Semyon Varlamov was first off the ice and will start tonight's game.

For the moment, it has stopped raining heavily and a light mist, if that, is falling at Heinz Field.  I daresay that I see clouds clearing in the distance, as well.  As for the rink conditions, NHL ice guru Dan Craig declared the sheet "wet."  But the ice crew has removed between 3 and 4,000 gallons of water from the playing surface so far this morning and it seems as though all will be good to go at 8.
