The Capitals welcome the Penguins to the Verizon Center tonight in a prelude to the Winter Classic and by far the biggest game of the Caps' season. The Penguins beat the Panthers last night by a 5-2 count in Pittsburgh, and to nobody's surprise, Sidney Crosby extended his point streak to 22 games. If the Capitals are going to win, they need to find a way to stop 87, something no one has been able to do all season.
Michal Neuvirth is expected to start in nets for the Caps after stopping 59 of 62 in his last 2 games, both wins. Pittsburgh will counter with Marc-Andre Fleury, who, after being nothing short of dreadful the first month of the season, has been absolutely stellar over the last month or so.
Defenseman Jeff Schultz took the morning skate and was stickhandling, a good sign, but will not play tonight.
No lineup changes are expected for the Capitals other than Eric Fehr replacing the injured Matt Bradley. Brads is expected to miss 2-4 weeks after breaking a finger on Tuesday.
Puck will drop tonight at about 7:07. Grab your cold ones and get ready for a doozy. (Caps247 does not endorse underage consumption of alcohol. Use at your own risk).
Welcome!
Welcome to Caps 'Round the Clock, a blog covering the Washington Capitals and the NHL. In season, I update the Blog after every practice and on game day with Caps news and information, and then provide a recap and analysis after each contest. I also write a periodical Prospect Watch and weekly feature pieces on the state of the Men in Red and other things Capitals. And of course, I will post videos and tidbits from around the League and offer my two cents as the season wears on. In the offseason, I write a Report Card for each player, and will keep you updated on all the news about the Caps through the summer. I'm glad you're here, and hope you come back!
