Check out this video of a brutal two-handed slash by Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier tonight that earned him his marching orders and a five minute major penalty. Boys, play nice.
The Montreal Canadiens did your Washington Capitals another huge favor tonight, knocking off the Tampa Bay Lightning in a shootout at the Bell Centre. The Habs, despite being down two of their top six forwards in Jeff Halpern and Tomas Plekanec, were down 1-0 but came back to take the lead off goals from Andrei Kostitsyn and Brian Gionta. They gave up an equalizer on the power play about halfway through the third period, and the game moved to a shootout, but Nigel Dawes and Mike Cammalleri scored for the Habs to get the extra point. Carey Price made 35 stops for Montreal. The Bolts do gain a point on the Capitals, making their lead four points, but Tampa now only holds one game in hand on Washington instead of two. The Caps also own the tiebreaker between the two teams, as they have won more games outside the shootout.
Big game in New Jersey tomorrow night. The Devils lost tonight in Ottawa; only their third regulation loss since the second week of January.
Welcome!
Welcome to Caps 'Round the Clock, a blog covering the Washington Capitals and the NHL. In season, I update the Blog after every practice and on game day with Caps news and information, and then provide a recap and analysis after each contest. I also write a periodical Prospect Watch and weekly feature pieces on the state of the Men in Red and other things Capitals. And of course, I will post videos and tidbits from around the League and offer my two cents as the season wears on. In the offseason, I write a Report Card for each player, and will keep you updated on all the news about the Caps through the summer. I'm glad you're here, and hope you come back!
