Today, March 20, is Capitals defenseman Dennis Wideman's 28th birthday. A very happy birthday to Wides. The defender has been a brilliant addition to the Capitals roster since his acquisition on trade deadline Monday from the Florida panthers, well worth the price of a third round pick and Jake Hauswirth. In his ten games with the Caps, Washington is 9-1 and he has racked up six assists and a plus-seven rating, which is one of the best offensive stretches from any Capitals defenseman all season. Despite the occasional adventure with the puck in his own zone, he has also been a stalwart on the back end, blocking shots with his face (just like Dale Hunter said he would) and his midsection as well as the traditional shinpad and skate variety. And, the Capitals get him next year, too. Thanks, GMGM.
The Capitals have today off and will return to the ice Monday morning at 10:30 for a practice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. The Capitals will then fly to Philadelphia for their game with the Flyers Tuesday night. Make sure to check up on all your news from yesterday in the world of Caps hockey: practice updates, the Caps sign a new prospect, and your daily scoreboard watching.
Lastly, check out this amazing goal off the stick of Toronto defenseman Luke Schenn last night that began the Leafs' 5-2 rout of the Bruins. The kid has got skill.
Welcome!
Welcome to Caps 'Round the Clock, a blog covering the Washington Capitals and the NHL. In season, I update the Blog after every practice and on game day with Caps news and information, and then provide a recap and analysis after each contest. I also write a periodical Prospect Watch and weekly feature pieces on the state of the Men in Red and other things Capitals. And of course, I will post videos and tidbits from around the League and offer my two cents as the season wears on. In the offseason, I write a Report Card for each player, and will keep you updated on all the news about the Caps through the summer. I'm glad you're here, and hope you come back!
We actually made him a cake, too. A vanilla one. :) We hope he enjoyed it.
