The Washington Capitals were on ice earlier today at 10 AM for their morning skate as they prepare to take on the Carolina Hurricanes at Verizon Center. Some updates from Kettler Capitals Iceplex:
Semyon Varlamov skated before practice and is progressing well, according to coach Bruce Boudreau. He is not ready to play yet, but felt good and is "coming along." Mike Green, Nicklas Backstrom, and Tom Poti skated as well with the team as they continue to work their way back from injuries, but none of them will play tonight. Alex Ovechkin, Dennis Wideman, Marco Sturm, and Matt Bradley all took their option to not skate, but will play tonight. As such, the lines stay the same as they were against Edmonton: Ovechkin-Johansson-Kuble, Sturm-Arnott-Semin, Chimera-Laich-Fehr, and Hendricks-Gordon-Bradley.
Braden Holtby has been confirmed as tonight's starting goalie for the Capitals. He will be backed up by Michal Neuvirth, who has recovered from his eye injury. Tyler Sloan, Jay Beagle, and DJ King will be the healthy scratches, as expected.
That's all for now. Check back after the game.
Thanks to Mike Vogel and Sky Kerstein for info in this post.
Welcome!
Welcome to Caps 'Round the Clock, a blog covering the Washington Capitals and the NHL. In season, I update the Blog after every practice and on game day with Caps news and information, and then provide a recap and analysis after each contest. I also write a periodical Prospect Watch and weekly feature pieces on the state of the Men in Red and other things Capitals. And of course, I will post videos and tidbits from around the League and offer my two cents as the season wears on. In the offseason, I write a Report Card for each player, and will keep you updated on all the news about the Caps through the summer. I'm glad you're here, and hope you come back!
